Doyle Sails –Doing it right!
Doyle Sailmakers have had another successful season. Not only have we had success on the course, many customers
have also improved over the season, after working with the Doyle Team. Winners are those who have improved from
the efforts last year as well as the people who won regattas and point scores.
Congratulations to everyone.

Audi Regatta 09.
As mentioned already, congratulations to Brett & Karen Pearce for
winnng the Audi car at the recent regatta. For this regatta, they
sailed a good series with Karen helming and Brett in the crew. Using
there Doyle Sails they purchase for the 2007 winter series, (where
they won as well), they proved there sailing and driving skills to finish
on top.
From 4 Audi regattas, Doyle Sails powered yachts have now won
2 cars.
Other successful yachts at the Audi Regatta were:-
Brilliant- Ben 34.7- Howard Piggott- 1st IRC 3
Eudoria-John Sturrock, 2nd Classic Div.
MRZ-Phillip Rowe-3rd PHS1
Edake-Jeff Carter-4th PHS1
Sydney Restructure!
Its now been 4 months since we instigated major changes to the operating arrangements to our Sydney Loft.
Work has continued on as normal and all pick up and delivery of service work and new work is a s before. In
case you have heard things to the contrary:-
• Business is as usual at Doyle Fraser Sails in Sydney,
• Phone and emails have all remained the same,
• All new sails and service work is organise d as before. Whilst the service work is no longer completed
at Ruschcutters Bay all service work is collected and returned in time for your nrxt race.
• No need to visit the loft. We found that fewer and fewer people actually had time to visit the loft, so
now we offer a free pick up and delivery to all major yacht clubs. We also are more acessable to meet
you on your yacht.

Hong Kong to San Fernando
Race 2009.
The 2009 Hong Kong to San Fernando race was a
triumph for Doyle Sails. Not only did Strewth get
line honors, but 1st, 2nd and 4th boats on corrected
time in IRC were all powered by Doyle
Sails.
The fact that the honors were shared between
Doyle Sails Australia and New Zealand, shows the
wide consistency and value of the product. In the
Premier Cruising Division, Moonblue 2 was second,
Doyle Sails (partial) and Long Reef (Crowther
42) won the Multi-hull Division using Doyle Sails
although there was only one entrant in that division!
The recent Hong Kong Etchells National Championship
had Doyle Sails 1st, 2nd & 3rd.

Lexus Lincoln Regatta 2009.
From race records to IRC success, Doyle powered
boats dominated the Regatta.
In IRC, Reverie, a Beneteau 45 owned by Alan Woodward, sailed a consistent series to win both IRC and AMS at this
years Lexus Lincoln Regatta. Col Anderson from the Doyle Loft in Melbourne, has ben involved with Reverie from the
start. After a second in the Skandia Geelong week, they have improved to record an impressive win in Port Lincoln.
2nd In IRC was Secret Mens Business 3. (Geoff Boetcher).
In the Adelaide Lincoln race, Secret Mens Business 3, (Geoff Boetcher) beat the race record by approximatly 40
mins. The record was previously held by Skandia Wild Thing. In this race the position;s were reversed with Reverie
claiming 2nd Place in IRC.

Doyle Cruising Sails.
Cruising sails are a large segment of any sailing market.
At Doyle Sails we put the same energy into our cruising
sails that we do for all of our sails. These can be
from small rollerfurl sails to blue water cruising super
yachts.
Some of our latest cruising efforts have been:-
Roberts 53-, Picasso-Holland 66,
Beneteau 53, Adams 53,
S&S 34, Pawtucket 35,
Mottle 33, Hood 23,
Cavalier 32.
Whether you are after sails, covers or
cruising advice, your local Doyle Sailloft
can help.
Hi John,
Just to let you know we had a chance to try the sail out over Easter. Spent a bit of time down around Geelong and sailing
around Port Phillip.
The sail fitted and worked very well and up to your usual very high standard.
Thanks again Bob.
Bob Beresford. Owner of the S&S 34 Vanquish , after using his new Doyle #2/Rollerfurl Genoa.
Dear John,
I put the new sail on my boat yesterday and went for a short sail. I just wanted to let you and your staff know how pleased I
am with the quality and shape of the sail. It's enough to encourage me to go back to racing again.
Thanks again your service and quick response time it was most appreciated.
Best Regards,
Bill Sutton

Farr 30 National Championships.
Laura,
I hope I am not to late for a testimonial on the recent F30 nationals.
The sails that Doyle came up with were very different to our previous sails both the north and quantum sails.
The main has a very flat lower third and quite a full head
The #2 is extremely flat with draft well forward.
The design gives only a tight band in which to sail well upwind but the boat tells you when you are there, and it was singing
The only problem with helming is that you have little time to really study the shapes.
Needless to say I feel the sails gave us a distinct advantage over our normal rivals sporting the north and quantum gear.
I have always searched for consistent height and have now a confidence that I have not previously had.
The speeds were comparable and the sailing is always tight. The real gains are made in the boat handling and the tactics.
But the sails keep you in the game and the confidence of height and speed remain priority 1.
Regards
Col

Doyle Sailmakers Qingdao.
Why there is still a lot of negative attitude towards the quality of goods that come out of China, after working
here for over 2 years my attitude has certainly changed. Our workers are very much dedicated to making the
best possible product. We have Todd Cunningham from Doyle head office in the USA who worked on projects
like Mirabella 5 and Maltese Falcon hands on training and overseeing every seam and stitch. Mark Fullerton
is also overseeing all general management and quality to ensure the product is perfect and on time.
With the time pressures of expensive manufacturing behind us we can put a lot more attention to detail into
every sail. This is what has really made the difference. Some of our major competitors have been manufacturing
overseas for over 20 years. All our design work is still done in Sydney by Michael Carter who has been
with the company for over 20 years. This insures the “heart” of the
sail comes from over 30 years of design history and experience
we have with Australian sailmaking . With heaps of space, a
brand new loft and equipment its easy to see how the quality can
be taken to the next level.
Mark Fullerton, China.
