The success of Doyle Jib lies in two areas - the design with five sections and our unique “Fraser Plus” corner reinforcing.
The multi section panel layout allows us to align the chosen laminate for the sail accurately to the computer generated catenary curve derived from the Relax program. It also allows us to vary the material weights throughout the sail, with stronger materials in the highly loaded leech, stepping down to lighter weights in the less loaded luff area.
Doyle construction may incorporate our unique Panel/Patch technology. Rather than conventional reinforcing patches on the corners, the reinforcing is incorporated within the panels. The curved edges of the panels are carefully designed to ensure the correct amount of reinforcing as the loads diminish into the sail. It also eliminates the need for separate reinforcing panels, so no breakdown can occur around their perimeter, as with conventional sails.
These features, combined with glued and sewn horizontal seams and four leech battens, offer the ultimate in shape retention, performance and weight in a panelled sail.
